MS-107 is a specialized heat-absorbing foaming agent designed specifically for PVC foam pipes and other PVC foam profiles. Based on high-purity sodium bicarbonate, it is intended for use in combination with NC and AC foaming agents to promote uniform foaming, reduce product density, and enhance structural stability. Its endothermic decomposition profile provides excellent thermal control during processing.
Product Principle:
MS-107 contains 90% sodium bicarbonate, which decomposes endothermically within the temperature range of 155–170°C, absorbing heat and releasing carbon dioxide gas. This endothermic reaction cools the polymer melt, preventing overheating and stabilizing the foaming process. When used alongside exothermic foaming agents such as AC, MS-107 balances the overall thermal profile, reducing the risk of cell coalescence and ensuring uniform bubble formation throughout the extruded profile.
Performance Characteristics:
With a gas formation volume of 150–170 ml/g, MS-107 provides reliable foaming power while its endothermic nature delivers significant processing advantages. The low volatile content (2.5%) and minimal fugitive constituents (≤3%) ensure clean decomposition without excessive smoke, odor, or die buildup. The fine white powder disperses readily in PVC compounds, promoting consistent cell nucleation. Its compatibility with both NC and AC foaming agents allows formulators to fine-tune foam structures for specific pipe and profile applications.
Usage and Dosage:
Recommended addition level is 0.5–3 phr, typically used in combination with 0.1–0.5 phr of AC or NC foaming agents. The exact ratio depends on the desired foam density, cell structure, and wall thickness of the product. For thick-walled pipes requiring uniform internal foam, higher MS-107 proportions are beneficial. Systematic trials are recommended to optimize the blend for specific applications and processing conditions.
